‘Design and Digitalization: Taking a human-centred approach to Innovation and Technology for HR’

This week, we focus on the power of Design and Digitalization on the next step of our journey in the New Landscape of Work. As we continue to adapt to the challenging circumstances of our remote, post-pandemic work settings, new solutions are required to address the emerging issues facing our teams. How do we continue to provide an outstanding Employee Experience for our workers? What new opportunities are there to accelerate business impact with hybrid teams? In what ways can we develop our com

Staying Aligned on Shifting Sands: The HRBP in the “New Landscape of Work”

‘The (in)Visible Woman’: The Role of Representation in Empowering Female Leaders

While gender equality initiatives have accelerated tremendously in the past 30 years, women universally do not experience the same rights, benefits, and opportunities as men across the socio-political-economic spectrum. Naturally, this disparity is seen in the global workforce with approximately 3% of the world’s CEOs being women. While this comes as no surprise, it begs the question: “How did we get here?” And, this is exactly how Dr. Ewa Widlak led BeNext’s Masterclass for our currently runnin

‘Identifying the Opportunities amongst the Obstacles’

This week’s Newsletter focuses on how we can proactively respond to today’s ever-changing work context and overcome hybrid leadership challenges by exploring new avenues of possibility on this journey of transformation. While the economy may be on an upward trajectory since the vaccine rollout and fiscal stimulus of the past several months, the pandemic’s disruption on our workforces appear far from over. How can we find new ways to restore gender balance in our organizations after the adverse e

“Innovation happens when we are put under constraints.”

As we know, the HRBP’s role has evolved at an unprecedented rate over the past 18 months as we progress further into our hybrid context. At this stage of the post-pandemic world, “old ways of working” seem far behind us and unlikely to return in face of the New Normal. Recognizing this transformation has inspired BeNext to create the 5-week cohort learning journey, ‘HR Business Partner in the New World of Work’ to address the 3 key levers that HRBPs can use to create greater value and impact thr

‘Balancing All 3 Legs of the Stool’: Today’s Triple Transformation Facing HRBPs

In light of ‘HR Business Partner in the New World of Work’ returning to BeNext from September 20th — October 22nd, 2021, we are sharing some of the insights we gained from the LIVE panel discussion, leading up to Dave Ulrich’s masterclass from our previous HRBP program cohort. Our experts explored in depth the evolving role of the HRBP in today’s post-pandemic context: How has it changed? How can the HRBP continue to add value to the business? How can we take better care of our workers to ensur

‘Learning is a journey, not a destination!’

As we become accustomed to continuous transformation in today’s VUCA context, leading organizations are recognizing — not just the value — but the necessity of skilling their workers and investing in L&D. But, where does the learning start and stop? Experts are often asked who is leading by example in today’s transitional world of work, “who’s doing this correctly, and how?”. The answer is, no-one can really say for sure! We are all navigating changes to our working (and personal) lives and, whi

Empathy for Economy — why should you care?

The vaccine rollout & massive fiscal stimulus of the past several months have been driving economic improvement in the post-COVID working world, and the OECD predicts global economic growth to be 5.8% for 2021 — a sharp upwards revision from the December 2020 projection. Most executives are looking at these projections and revisiting their plans to seize these exciting new business opportunities. However, despite this projection for economic improvement, many workers have — naturally — been str

“You fight the war with talent, you win the war with organization.” Dave Ulrich Debunks HRBP Myths

‘Diversity needs Community’: Why CBCs are Essential for D&I Learning

Today’s virtual self-paced learning programs offer numerous benefits, like planning your own schedule, holding yourself accountable for your progress, and the option to not talk to anyone else. While these freedoms offer plenty of advantages for the individual, deeply human issues such as D&I, and the world of HR are, by their nature, social, which naturally demands an interactive, community-based approach to learning. That’s where cohort-based courses like BeNext step in. In conversation with

"Clothes Make the Man"

“Clothes make the man” goes the ancient proverb, meaning “people will judge you by the clothes you wear”. Most would agree this holds true today. However, what is in a constant state of change, is how men in particular dress to present an image of masculinity. Menswear has evolved with us through history, differing greatly by geography, culture, and social ideology. Skirts, capes, and dresses have all been fixtures of a man’s wardrobe at one point or other, not to mention wigs, makeup, and high-heeled shoes. So, what does masculinity look like in 2K21? Can contemporary fashion present a masculine image free from the gender expectations of the moment? This editorial explores this notion through a modern take on classic male tropes that have captured fashion’s imagination throughout the ages: the rebel, the romantic, the playboy, the performer, the dreamer, the influencer, and the hero.

The New Normal

With the current threat of pandemics amid growing opposition to facial-recognition technologies, could wearing masks in daily life soon become “the new normal”? As we get more comfortable (and creative) interacting with each other with our mouths and noses covered, the idea of concealing our faces entirely on a day-to-day basis seems like a near-future possibility. How might strangers treat one another other differently if they were unable to determine someone’s gender, age, or any other identifying characteristics? And what effect might this have on how we all choose to dress?
Gerald Dickens

Artist in the Hotseat: Gerald Dickens

Daniel: CD’s works are recognised for being both dark and comic, that’s quite a delicate balance to get right for a solo actor – is this something you find challenging when performing? Gerald: When I first began to perform the works of Dickens I asked my father for advice and his reply was disarming in its simplicity: ‘Just remember, that Dickens has done all of the work for you’. By following the original text, or reading his performance notes, you find that the changes from dark to light are carefully crafted. So long as I don’t stray from Dickens’ words, then the balance works beautifully.

Queen of Welsh Psych-Folk brings Crab Day to UK shores

The Queen of Welsh Psych-Folk returns to Revelation! Cate Le Bon’s style (described by Gruff Rhys as “Bobbie Gentry and Nico fight over a Casio keyboard; melody wins!”) echoes influences from 1960s psychedelic folk-rock and is often singled out by critics for her hauntingly beautiful vocals, playful but surreal soundscapes with a trademark fusion of light and dark lyrics. Crab Day is Le Bon’s first solo record recorded in Los Angeles, California, where she relocated in 2013. Critics have singled out this new album as a stylistic shift for Le Bon, due to her new American surroundings and collaborative work on Hermits on Holiday with Tim Presley (the duo billed as DRINKS). Her songs, ranging from the abstract to the truly heartfelt, explore diverse themes such as the imperfect nature of love to existential crisis, a curious balance of structure and abandon – synonymous with Le Bon herself.
